Caffeinated Technology

My Blackberry decided jump in my breakfast coffee. Something that is awesome as it caused the screen to stop working. Again. RIM, I have a question. If something happens to a Blackberry why is it always the screen that stops working?? No other phone I own is like that.

So, the poor little Bold 9700, is now in a Tupperware box of uncooked rice, after I found out that is a good way of drawing moisture out of the phone. I have heard of the logic before, but I have no idea how it works. If you search online for help, like I did, the rice idea is the most popular, and most basic fix available.  But, as long as you stay away from the hair drier (makes condensation in phone), leaving it for a few days should get it back on track.  I hope.

I am sceptical of this working, but I have it on good authority it works. So I hope it can be saved, and I’ll have him back working in a few days. I hope.  I love it how I am always broke when things like this happen. -.-

Recommended Ap: Word To Go

I am typing this up on Word To Go, for Blackberry. I have to say it is a very smooth application, and is really coming in handy with all the blogs and scripts and things I need to write.

The text is very clear, and is a relatively good size, which is awesome, seeing as a lot of apps have very small writing as standard. Which can make using it rather difficult, because you need to go and edit things before you even start writing. The main reason I am trying a word processor on my phone is because I felt it would be better in that sometimes writing things online or through another app, can sometime lead to things being slow. Also, a lot of other applications don’t have a great spell check. This has an awesome one, so it means when I post something, it is at least written correctly.

I also got this app to help prepare for video blogs. I have recently been trying to find away to script my vlogs on the go, as I haven’t been spending a lot of time on my PC. I guess, I thought it would be nice to write down ideas, as I got them, because I have a habit of forgetting things. So I acknowledge something is a good idea, and then I forget about it. Which is not the best way to work.

Word To Go is installed in most Blackberry smart phones as well as apps similar to Excel and Power Point. It is great having these applications to hand. When you first access the software, you are given the chance to edit existing files or to upgrade to premium so that you can create new files through your phone. That premium edition costs a one off fee of around £8.00 and is available at

Technological Necessity

I feel ashamed.

Why, I hear you ask.

Well, I have to admit at how much I missed my Blackberry Bold. I had to send it away to get repaired, when the screen got a pressure fracture. Well, I don’t think that’s the actual term, but that’s what I am calling it. It seems like pressure had been applied to the screen, giving an appearance of ‘dead pixels’ on the screen. Something I have never experienced before, so I panicked. I decided that although I could still see the screen and use the phone, that I would send it away to get fixed, before the phone became unusable.

This mean I had to return to my previous phone, which was a Nokia slide thing. The thing about having a smart phone, is that you take it for granted that you can send emails, post blogs, access Facebook, et al, all without the need for a computer. Well, returning to a phone which doesn’t even have internet access makes you feel like you have lost a limb. You have to revert back to doing any business through a computer. Which if you are used to just sending quick email replies to people, is a major pain.

I think I feel so bad, because I feel like I have become such a slave to technology, and how much I need it. The thing is, I didn’t even realise it happening. I tell myself, I keep it up because I crave contact with people all over the world. That by networking online, I can help my business. Only, it doesn’t really help with my business. As said before, apart from minor spurts of inspiration, the most creative I have been lately is writing on this very blog. And even then, it is not like I am breaking any boundaries, I just seem to be spouting verbal diarrhoea everywhere. I think, I am getting to the stage where I am making excuses.

But why should I have to make excuses for letting technology help me? Isn’t it a good thing, that so many aspects of our lives can come together so seamlessly, thanks to just a few small devices. I think it is AMAZING, that objects can make us feel like we are closer to people, and are helping us achieve things. I think that there is still a stigma attached to technology, where if you use it a lot, you have no life. But rather than the user be demeaned, it is the mocker who is not willing to open themselves up to try new things. Is it because people are afraid to admit that they like the assistance that having something like a smart phone can provide? That people still want to fool others into thinking, that they can do things on their own?

I don’t know. All I can say is that I am glad to have my Blackberry back.

Why am I excited over this?

The fact that I am now able to blog from my phone has me really hyper. That is obviously just how sad I am, lol. Seriously though, the first things I did with my nice new phone was download the apps for twitter, tumblr and wordpress.

Actually, it’s not that strange considering blogging is what I mostly do over the internet. What it has done, is make the prospect of heading to Blackpool without my laptop a reality, cause I can do everything I need over my phone. So I am received over that, as I really wasn’t wanting to have to leave it in my hotel room all day. I get nervous doing things like that.
